I believe that deforestation is a threat to our planet because forest covers 13% of land area, also forests give of oxygen which is essential for the human body and provides homes for wild life. 1.6 billion people rely on forest needs such as water, food, and shelter. If the world is under deforestation it jeopardizes these benefits that are naturally given to us.

A negative effect of deforestation is the erosion of the soil due to more exposure to the sun, wiping out nutrients such as nitrogen that are essential for maintaining the fertility of the land. Also, forests function in the storage of water and the regulation of the water cycle. They absorb water from rainfall and other waterways through their roots and release it back into the atmosphere. From the atmosphere, the water is re-accessed through rainfall and the cycle continues.

Also our rivers would be polluted by soil because without trees or roots, nothing can bind or hold soil together in place so when water erosion would occur, the soil would directly be channeled into our waterways, which will effect drinking water since most of our drinking water come from rivers.

I believe that deforestation is a threat to the wellbeing of our planet because it is a contributor to global warming, which in turn could be one of the major causes of the greenhouse effect. It also affects the water cycle, by reducing the transpiration of trees thus resulting in a drier climate. Deforestation leads to less water content in soil and groundwater, as well as less atmospheric moisture. It can eventually cause erosion, flooding, and landslides, by reducing soil cohesion.

i believe deforestation is a threat even though the wood cut down meets the demands for products we use today, and the land provides space for business use. Its still an issue, the forest povides oxygen for our planet, because 31% of our planet is forest, also it provides home for wild life that people hunt and feed off of. So if there is no food for the people there could be famines.

Unquestionably the most open-minded comment within this forum. I agree wholeheartedly with what you have said. Not only have you outlined the problems of deforestation but you have also subtly explained why such an heinous act occurs in the first place; resources and space. Please don't be misplaced by my comments, in no way am I trying to justify deforestation, however this forum is riddled with repetitive comments that explain deforestation (very well) but doesn't provide any suggestions to how people can go about solving it. I personally would suggest that for every tree that is cut down by villagers and landowners that they plant 100 more. To anyone who has commented or who is going to comment, I strongly suggest that you take your understanding of deforestation and it's threat and suggest solutions of your own instead of defining deforestation for millionth time.

Deforestation refers to the loss or destruction of naturally occurring forests, primarily due to human activities such as logging, cutting trees for fuel, slash-and-burn agriculture just to name a few. It not only contributes to changes in the climate, it also causes localized changes in the weather. Trees transpire, or release water into the atmosphere, during photosynthesis. Changes in weather and shelter cause deforested areas to undergo a tremendous loss of biodiversity, which has global consequences when forests harbor unique species.

Deforestation is definetly a threat to not only the environment and the world around us but also to each of us personally. Many of the vital resources that we take for granted daily would not be adequately available to us without forests. Oxygen, clean fresh water and many plant species used in medicines and other products are found in forests. These forests are also home to endangered specis, and even people! I believe deforestation is a real threat to the world and even more so to the people that live in the areas in which this is happening. Forest provide a lot of our oxygen and remove much of the CO2 that we put into our atmosphere. By destroying forest we are poisoning our air and destroying our environment. Animals rely on trees for shelter, and food. By removing trees we are causing those animals to either die or to move to a new habitat. Forest also keep the ground in place in some areas. Removing trees makes that area more susceptible to flooding, landslides and erosion of the land. This is why i believe deforestation is bad.

Deforestation is a very real environmental threat. Our once vast forests are disappearing. All around the world, trees are being cut down too quickly for earth to regenerate new forests. Illegal logging has become a way of life for some communities, with timber being taken from wherever it is accessible, sold to collectors and processed in huge sawmills. In the absence of sufficient alternative economic development, this is an irresistible lure for the local communities.

I do agree that deforestation is a major problem in our world today. Deforestation is the permanent destruction of forests in order to make the land available for other uses. An estimated 18 million acres of forest roughly the size of Panama are lost each year, according to the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization. Some people do not realize how necessary forests are they provide natural resources such as food for us to eat and oxygen that we need to breath.

Just to step out of the box a little global warming is fueled by greenhouse gasses, which are absorbed by trees. As such, our forests help to regulate our climate and stabilize it, despite the pollutants we spread through the air. The more forests we lose, the less of a buffer we have, and the greater the impact of those unabsorbed greenhouse gasses.

Deforestation is a real threat because it has many negative effects. Such as, climate changes, soil erosion destruction, change in water cycle, and loss habitat. Also more carbon dioxide is released into the air, increases the effect of global warming. Plus, animals' homes are destroyed, leading to extinction. Lastly, trees contribute to the water cycle by absorbing water, when the water cycle is disturbed the atmosphere and bodies of water dry up.

Although we may die if we have no oxygen Jmae, trees are not the only place we get oxygen from and as described by John Keersemaker, a forester from the Arbor Day Foundation; it is almost impossible for us to cut down all the trees in the world at the rate at which we are currently building the economy, simply because trees are actually one of the last sources of oxygen. The Earth's atmosphere itself contains plenty of oxygen and it just changes every now and again, but trees just happen to produce oxygen as a bi-product of photosynthesis and therefore release it, but we are not entirely dependent on the trees alone.

Trees provide us clean, breathable air yet we decide to cut them down and pollute the very air the trees are cleansing with construction equipment and many vehicles that require gas and give off harmful fumes. Also, deforestation causes the animals that lived in that forest to have to adjust to a different habitat and most end up dying.

Trees are critical to environmental health. They absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, provide habitat for wildlife and anchor topsoil to the ground. The effects of this deforestation are far-reaching and affect more than just the forested communities it affects the human communities too because the trees give us oxygen so we can breathe.

Deforestation is a BIG threat, not only to our environment but to the whole world. Why is this you ask. Well, deforestation is seen as a major threat to society due to the fact that it deprives the environment of oxygen which can lead to global warming and it destroys habitats for birds like woodpeckers causing some species to die out or to migrate. Also trees make up most of the land so if they are continually cut down, the land would look very empty and lastly the trees give the land a lot of beauty with their colours so why destroy that.

I think that deforestation can have a postivr effect and negative effect. A positive effect, like my friend Daijah Stowe said, can be that it allows for the evolvement of a community. Giving opportunity for more housing, businesses, hotels, etc. It can be a negative effect because it destroys homes for animals and different species. It also decreases nature reserves.

YES, Deforestation is a problem to the earth, Deforestation is turning large areas of the planet into deserts also the top layers of soil become hard, as a result of which rainwater cannot seep into the ground to grow plants.

I Agree that Deforestation is a treat. Deforestation refers to the loss or destruction of occurring forest.. It contributes to changes in many things such as the climate and weather. This process is a treat for many reason, for example, animals homes are destroyed which leads to extinction, cutting of trees leads to less water content in soil and groundwater, also Tress provide us with oxygen! cutting them down is just Making the world worse for humans.

Yes, i agree that deforestation is a big problem to our earth. Because trees provide shelter/habitat and food for many species. Trees also provide oxygen and depending on what type of tree it could provide food and medicine for humans as well.

Although it is clear that deforestation is a serious problem, trees and wildlife aren't the only ones being affected. Lots of non-renewable resources like metal and oil go into harvesting timber. Not to say that deforestation isn't as bad but with the right care it can easily be fixed, unlike the related problems with non-renewable resources.

I do believe that deforestation is a threat to our plant because it reduces the transpiration of trees making the climate drier. Which lead to less water content underground the the moisture in the air that the plants and trees give off. However Deforestation does have a positive effect also the opportunity for more housing and bussiness etc and the evolomemt of community.

I think that deforestation is a real threat. besides the obvious facts like the decrease of oxygen, deforestation will decrease good soil, certain animal species and even increase pollution.

On the other hand, Zakiyyah was right when she said there can be positives. one being the investment opportunities. For example, a foreign investor might want to build a new hotel in your country, but there is no room in the city area and he still is willing to pay, you would he to create new land if you take the offer.

i agree with the following answers. i agree because if we dont start to take care of the animals they will eventually start to die off. therefore the animals that "clean up" after humans mess will die off and then the earth will become dirty and overtime we will die off.

I believe that deforestation is a problem. Its a problem because it effects many things like climate change. Apparently deforestation is considered one of the contributing factors of global climate change. Other effects of deforestation are the loss of species, water cycle, soil erosion, and life quality.

I believe that deforestation is a threat in the world because cutting down trees is also cutting down our oxygen. we do need oxygen to breathe.

Yes deforestation is real threat because the forest provides many natural resources for us and provides many habitats for animals.

when deforestation occurs, we not only loose money and natural resources, we also loose our wild animals and many medicinal herbs that the fertile soils produces.
